New Signings: Concord Music

By The GMS Team 30-Jul-2018

This month's new signings spotlight is all about Concord Music. Concord Music is an independent, worldwide music publisher with a diverse and vibrant roster of active recording artists, composers, and songwriters, and a vast and historic catalog of works by some of the most treasured names in music history from Daft Punk to Stravinsky and George Harrison.

Concord Music’s publishing business was transformed in 2017 when it acquired Imagem Music Group and integrated it with Concord’s existing publishing operation, The Bicycle Music Company. This combination resulted in a catalog of over 380,000 copyrighted works, spanning all musical genres and containing many of the world’s most celebrated compositions.  With the Imagem acquisition, Concord Music also added Boosey & Hawkes, the world’s leading specialist classical music publisher, and the legendary Rodgers & Hammerstein Organization, both of which remain as individual business units under the Concord Music umbrella. Here's an insight into the latest additions to their roster.

Che Lingo

After growing up in the crux of the UK Rap/Grime scenes, Ché Lingo’s magic lies in his ability to fuse his melodic rap style and intense lyricism with eclectic flows. In his words - "My Rap derives from Grime but I'm a songwriter at heart” -  this unique style weaves rapidfire lyricism with beats that draw on the soulful hip-hop and R&B that have heavily influenced him. A sound that straddles the U.S. and the U.K., it has a distinctly London punch. “I want the lyrical content,” he explains, “but I also want the soul and the body.”

Recently Ché has had strong support from both mainstream and specialist radio - Radio 1Xtra, Radio 1, Rinse FM, Capital Xtra and Reprezent Radio -  along with widespread press support from The Independent, Fader, Noisey, Clash, The Line Of Best Fit, GRM Daily and many more. With sights set on international success, radio support is building with playlisting in France Germany and the US, a highlight including Pharrell spinning him on his radio show.  Currently collaborating with top tier U.S. artists and producers, in the sync world he has a major worldwide Reebok campaign about to drop, focused on “Pioneers”

Hailed by tastemakers The Line of Best Fit as "an unstoppable force of nature", Irish native Lyra delivers an exciting blend of dark electronic pop. Influenced by icons such as Kate Bush, Lykke Li and Bat for Lashes, Lyra has spent the past year honing her sound, writing with the likes of Braque (Rag N Bone Man, Bastille), Nico Rebscher (Aurora) and Phil Cook (Birdy) and is set to release her next set of songs through Polydor in the coming months. Her last single ‘Emerald’ scored a major sync opportunity being featured on the latest Guinness advert in Ireland.

Beth Lowen embraces the ferocious, Janis Joplin-esque rasp of her voice. In fact, it’s one of the reasons she chose to adopt the name Lion. The stage name never feels more apt than it does when Lion performs live. Her husky but powerful voice, already so potent on record, is unleashed to its full, roaring potential, as she jitters a little behind the mic, bathed in red light.

Fiction records have recently released two singles by Lion, ‘Self Control’ and ‘Oh No’, which showcase her exciting style and are the culmination of working with the legendary Linda Perry as executive producer of the forthcoming album.

Alex Metric

Alex Metric is a British musician, DJ and producer. He’s released numerous EPs as well as remixed for artists such as Foals, Madeon, NERD, Depeche Mode and Bloc Party, all while maintaining his position as an internationally in-demand producer. Alex's sound is deeply rooted in the earliest styles of underground dance music, touching on Disco, Funk, Chicago House and Detroit Techno as well as Indie Rock. His prominence in the UK Dance scene is undoubted, but his relevance across the pond has also grown over the years.

Metric’s sound is always developing, challenging the traditional confines of genres, from his club-ready remixes to his more contemporary original works;  there’s always something bold and interesting to be expected of him. Most recently he co-wrote the summer party track ‘Ginger’ by Riton and Kah-Lo, he has also been working on the Silk City collaboration of Mark Ronson and Diplo.
