Sync Success: Pop-Up Music

By Napsugar Bardocz / GMS Coordinator

The GMS caught up with Mark Garfield (pictured right) and Jim Meacock (pictured left), co-founders of Pop-Up Music, on the occasion of their success in landing 3 tracks in the new Tarantino film ‘Once Upon A Time In Hollywood’ that is coming to cinemas in the UK on the 14th August 2019.

This sync success story starts off in a not very rock and roll way on a tennis court. In an attempt to keep in touch with an old mate who worked in the music business and to keep fit, Mark of Pop-Up Music starting playing tennis – across the net each week they would exchange ideas and introduce each other to people in the industry. Rollling on a few years to today, Pop-Up Music have landed not one, not two but 3 syncs in the new Tarantino movie ‘Once Upon A Time In Hollywood’.

Pop-Up Music is a small independent sync company based in London run by two people, Jim and Mark. Over the last 5 years since inception we’ve been building an interesting catalogue of rare gems from diverse places and time periods, always with an ear for the unusual and authentic, and which have been catching the ear of Mary Ramos, Mr Tarantino’s music supervisor.

Anyone for tennis?!

Mark and Jim are heading to the London premiere next week (which will be their first time seeing the film actually), so unfortunately we cannot share details of the usage yet, however if you are interested, feel free to check out the tracks here.

All 3 tracks are taken from original Italian Spaghetti Western sound tracks.

The syncs are as follows:

Mexico western

Francesco De Masi: VADO L’AMMAZZO E TORNO

Un uomo chiamato Apocalisse Joe – seq. 1

Bruno Nicolai: OST Un uomo chiamato Apocalisse Joe

Ecce Homo

Francesco De Masi: Pop-Up Music
